Choosing between HiKOKI 18V and MULTI VOLT 36V is not a question of picking the biggest number. It is about matching the power system to the machine, the workload and the kit you want to build.
What HiKOKI 18V is good at
HiKOKI 18V covers many of the cordless tools used for everyday drilling, driving, fixing, cutting and site work. For tradespeople who value compact machines and already own compatible 18V batteries, it can be the straightforward way to expand a kit.
An 18V tool is not automatically light-duty. Performance varies significantly by machine, motor, gearing and application. Compare the specification of the actual tool rather than judging it by platform voltage alone.
Why MULTI VOLT 36V exists

For repetitive work, think about the whole rotation: how long a battery works in your application, how quickly the charger restores it and whether a second pack keeps the tool productive. One correctly planned battery pair is often more useful than a cupboard of mismatched packs.
